Hydia was especially abusive towards her two daughters Reeka and Draggle, to the point of punishing them for calling her "mommy". Hydia was depicted as a genuinely malicious villain who had a stereotypical "wicked" demeanor and sought to utterly ruin the world around herself as well as abuse everything for no reason other than she could, she was also apparently part of a long legacy of witches and warlocks who glorified being wicked for no reason other than they could. It was originally planned as an entire species of purple sludge monsters capable of a plague like illness, entirely unlike how it appeared in Make New Friends but Keep Discord. However, their failure to specify which ponies results in Grackle and Dyre attacking the world of Equestria. The Smooze was a planned for Ponytale, but no longer due to it's contradicting nature. During a month-long departure from the Volcano of Gloom, they task the pair with getting revenge on the ponies. Some years after their encounters with the ponies, Hydia's daughters became mothers: one to Dyre and the other to Grackle.

A deal was soon struck, with the bees helping to steal the Sunstone and taking it for their own, leaving Hydia and her daughters free to invade Ponlyand.
